Hans Bølling (1931)

Trolley side table

Oak, black and red vinyl

H.: 55cm – Dia.: 50cm

Produced by Torben Ørskov, Denmark, circa 1963

Architect Hans Bølling took on the challenge to design a simple and highly functional table.

This side table is one of the original first tables and owes its success to its emotional and playful qualities.

The frame is made of solid oak, the two double sided trays are reversible for color variation, one has a red vinyl surface and the other a black.

The trays are removable and the frame can easily be folded flat without the use of tools.

The trolley became a part of the modernist Danish design, Bølling created a piece of furniture that is still popular for more than fifty years. It has been made in different versions and still does by Brdr. Kruger.

Hans Bølling (1931) was born in Denmark, studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Early in his career he began to craft small wooden figures with great precision, which he quickly began to sell to stores. Shortly thereafter Bølling won an award for his designs and invested the winnings into his own carpentry machine.
