Otto Brauer

Otto Brauer was a Danish Master Glassblower, working at the glass manufacture  Kastrup. He was first employed within the company at Odense Glasværk in 1931, followed by Kastrup Glasværk in 1936, whereupon he was appointed Master in 1946.

His famous 'Gulvvase' was originally only produced in an uncased dark olive green, amber and dark blue by Kastrup. Later the vase was re-issued in different colours. In 1960, Kastrup merged with Holmegaard to become Kastrup og Holmegaard.

Holmegaard, originally established in 1825, is Denmark's oldest and largest glass manufacturer. Although much of its early work is thought to be derivative and inconsequential, the designs between the 1930s and 1980s are considered to have transformed the company into a powerhouse of Danish design. Today, Holmegaard is the leading glass producer in Denmark, producing both mouth-blown and machine-blown glass.
